Guy Sorman is a City Journal contributing editor and publisher and CEO of France-Ámerique, a bilingual magazine founded in New York in 1943. A columnist for the London-based CapX website and a frequent op-ed contributor to the Wall Street Journal, Sorman writes in defense of free markets and the free society in Europe. He is one of France’s leading public intellectuals, and his work has been published in more than 100 newspapers and magazines around the world. He has authored more than 20 books, several of which have been translated into English, including The New Wealth of Nations (1990), The Genius of India (2001), The Children of Rifaa: In Search of a Moderate Islam (2003), Economics Does Not Lie: A Defense of the Free Market in a Time of Crisis (2009), and The Empire of Lies: The Truth About China in the Twenty-First Century (2010).

In 1975, Sorman founded Éditions Sorman publishing company in Paris. In 1993–97, he was economic advisor to the French minister for foreign affairs and, later, to the prime minister. Since 2000, Sorman has chaired the India-France economic council. In 2008, he was appointed global advisor to former South Korean president Lee Myung-bak. Sorman is the founder and former president of Action Against Hunger, a leading NGO. During 2002–07, he served on the French National Commission for Human Rights. During 1995–2008, he was the elected deputy mayor of the city of Boulogne-Billancourt, near Paris, and is now chairman of the city’s economic council.

A graduate of the Paris Institute of Political Studies (Sciences Po) and the École Nationale d’Administration, Sorman has taught economics at the University of Paris, as well as in China, Russia, Argentina, and the United States. He is a recipient of France’s Legion of Honour, Brazil’s Southern Cross, and Argentina’s Order of May.
