James B. Meigs Joins Manhattan Institute as Senior Fellow and Contributing Editor to City Journal
NEW YORK, NY – The Manhattan Institute is pleased to announce that James B. Meigs, former editor of Popular Mechanics, has joined the Institute as senior fellow and contributing editor of City Journal.
Meigs is a long-time contributor to City Journal, where his essays have focused on issues ranging from California wildfires to failures in the public-health community’s Covid-19 response. His work on nuclear power as an urgent, emissions-free energy solution is particularly notable, and he’s made the case for further developing this clean energy source in essays and on City Journal’s 10 Blocks podcast.
Meigs’ scholarship as a senior fellow will expound on similar themes, seeking solutions to society's most pressing energy challenges and other issues of the day surrounding science and technology. His most recent City Journal article, “Smoke and Mirrors,” investigates the meme-driven theory that American food-processing facilities are being targeted in violent attacks as part of a purposeful conspiracy.
In his previous tenure at Popular Mechanics, Meigs helped reposition that century-old brand to become a major voice on developing technological issues of the day. Previous to his role at Popular Mechanics, he served as executive editor at National Geographic Adventure and editor-in-chief of the movie magazine Premiere. He began his career as a technology reporter. In addition to City Journal and Popular Mechanics, Meigs' work has appeared in a range of publications including Commentary and the Wall Street Journal. He is also cohost of the How Do We Fix It? podcast, and will continue in that role.
