Membership Manager, Adam Smith Society

Manhattan Institute for Policy Research (MI) is a nonprofit, nonpartisan, right-of-center public policy think tank headquartered in midtown Manhattan. For more than 40 years MI scholars have been committed to developing and disseminating policy ideas foster greater economic choice and individual responsibility in American life. The Adam Smith Society, an MI project founded in 2011, is a nationwide, chapter-based association of MBA students and business leaders promoting on-campus discussion and debate about the moral, societal, and economic benefits of capitalism.

At present, MI’s Development team is in search of a new member to manage the Adam Smith Society’s recently-launched paid membership program. Primarily, the Membership Manager will be expected to grow the number of paid members, both at the student and alumni levels, and encourage current members to increase to higher levels of investment. The candidate will believe deeply in the mission of the Adam Smith Society and come into the role with a mastery of databases, membership-outreach strategies, and event coordination, as well as exacting project-management skills.

This person also will help to build relationships with the Adam Smith Society’s major donors. The candidate must be able to articulate the mission and goals of the Adam Smith Society, its strategies, and programs to audiences of sophisticated, policy-savvy donors, members, MBA students, business professionals, executives, and philanthropists. We seek an individual who is entrepreneurial and can flourish in a fast-paced environment; one who is team-oriented, while taking full ownership of the need to build and deepen the commitment of our members over the near and long terms.

Applicants must articulate how their past experience has prepared them to do the job described above. This will be communicated through a cover letter that connects your work experience and personal policy outlook to MI's mission and the purpose of the Adam Smith Society. The letter must clearly lay out your interest in the position and how you would add value to the Adam Smith Society as it grows. A stock cover letter will not be considered. E-mail your letter—including a salary requirement—with your resume, and a list of three professional references (names and contact info) in a single PDF via support@manhattan-institute.org, addressed to Matt Toyer, Director of Development.
