Over the last two decades, shareholders of American businesses have gained power relative to corporate boards, leading to an increase in shareholder proposal activism. Manhattan Institute's Proxy Monitor site tracks shareholder proposals and Dodd-Frank-mandated executive advisory votes at some of the world’s largest companies in order to study the effect of shareholder activism on corporations.
