PAST EVENT Tuesday July 20 2021

Inflation in the American economy is higher than it has been in decades. This might be transitory—the result of a shut-down economy turning back on. But high inflation may turn out to be persistent as the economy returns to normal. For some time, Americans and their economic institutions have been accustomed to predictable and low inflation. Can we count on that going forward or are we entering a new regime?

On July 20, 2021, the Manhattan Institute will host a panel of distinguished economists to discuss the outlook for inflation and whether central banks have the will, or the ability, to reduce it. The panel will feature Mickey Levy, Chief Economist for Americas and Asia at Berenberg Capital, Mervyn King, the former Governor of the Bank of England, and Joseph Gagnon, Senior Fellow at the Peterson Institute for International Economics.
