In Memoriam: Dr. Tom Coburn

The Manhattan Institute mourns the passing of former U.S. senator Tom Coburn, MD. Dr. Coburn, formerly the Nick Ohnell Fellow at the Manhattan Institute and advisor to MI's Project FDA, was a longtime friend and partner of the Institute. He will be deeply missed.

Dr. Coburn’s work both in and out of government moved the needle on critical issues, including FDA reform and health care price transparency. In his role as advisor to MI’s Project FDA, he helped promote reforms to meet 21st century health-care challenges and expand access to life-saving therapies.

Dr. Coburn was deeply principled and an inspiration to all who knew him. As a doctor, legislator, and advocate, he worked tirelessly for decades on behalf of patients, and the results of his work will continue to be felt for decades to come.
