Young Leaders Circle Forum With Jeff Sessions

Wednesday January 2019

Speakers

Jeff Sessions Former United States Attorney General

On January 9, former U.S. Attorney General Jeff Sessions spoke at a private hosted by the Manhattan Institute's Young Leaders Circle in New York City.

Few Americans more epitomize the ideal of public service than Jeff Sessions, who recently resigned from his role as the nation’s chief law enforcement officer. In addition to leading the U.S. Department of Justice (DOJ), Sessions has been a U.S. Senator from Alabama, U.S. Attorney for the Southern District of Alabama, and a captain in the U.S. Army.

During his tenure at DOJ, as you likely know, his accomplishments were many. Sessions launched a successful campaign to bring down the escalating rate of violent crime, especially in America’s cities. He enforced laws that had long been on the books but never implemented (with regard to the immigration process and in other areas) and much more. In line with the recommendations of MI senior fellow Heather Mac Donald, Sessions vocally supported the nation’s law enforcement personnel, which improved morale, and he stood up for freedom of speech on U.S. college campuses, deploring what he has called the “coddling of our students.” He holds clear, thoughtful views on a wide range of issues including sanctuary cities, foreign policy, health care reform, and energy production, to name but a few.
