Race to the Top: How New York Can Better Encourage Value-Based Competition In Hospital Markets

New York, N.Y. 08:30am—01:30pm
Wednesday March 23
Wednesday March 23 2016
PAST EVENT Wednesday March 23 2016

The Affordable Care Act is the defining health care reform of this generation. In its wake, we have seen a marked increase in hospital mergers: in New York State, over a dozen hospitals have become part of larger networks since 2012. What does this trend, as well as New York’s ongoing Medicaid-reform efforts, mean for quality and cost—for payers, providers, employers, and patients—in the Empire State?

Please join us for a high-level Manhattan Institute conference on hospital consolidation and competition in New York State. Distinguished health care experts, from academia, business, and nonprofits, will examine various tools that policymakers can use to deliver better outcomes across New York’s vast health care ecosystem—including regulatory reforms to boost competition, better state and federal antitrust oversight, and value-based purchasing strategies. The goal: a dynamic, innovative, and competitive hospital market that delivers greater access to quality health care at lower cost to patients, employers, and taxpayers.
