Coercing Virtue: The Worldwide Rule of Judges

Hon. Robert H. Bork Senior Fellow, American Enterprise Institute
New York, N.Y. 12:00pm—02:00pm
Thursday December 11
Thursday December 11 2003
PAST EVENT Thursday December 11 2003

Judge Bork, who needs no introduction, remains one of the foremost intellectual critics of the “rule of judges” over American society. His earlier bestselling volumes, The Tempting of America and Slouching Toward Gomorrah, highlighted how American judges have been tempted to follow their own viewpoints, rather than the Constitution’s original intent and plain meaning, in interpreting constitutional text.

Judge Bork’s newest book examines how this disturbing trend has become an international phenomenon. Judge Bork examines both how the “American disease” has infected foreign judges in Canada and Israel and how American judges have increasingly relied on “international norms” to read our own uniquely American document.
