Brian Riedl joins Manhattan Institute as Senior Fellow in Economic Policy

The Manhattan Institute is pleased to welcome Brian Riedl as a senior fellow in economic policy. Riedl’s work will focus on opportunities for reforming the federal tax code, cutting spending, and promoting economic growth. He will be a part of the Manhattan Institute's Economics21.

Before joining MI, Riedl served as Chief Economic Policy Advisor in the office of Sen. Rob Portman, R-Ohio, conducting research and advising on policies related to federal spending, job creation, and tax policy. He also served as staff director of the Senate Finance Subcommittee on Fiscal Responsibility and Economic Growth during this time. In addition, Riedl served as a director of budget and spending Policy for Marco Rubio’s presidential campaign and was the lead architect of the ten-year deficit-reduction plan for Mitt Romney’s presidential campaign.

Prior to his work on the Hill, Riedl spent nearly a decade with the Heritage Foundation, where he directed much of the organization’s research and outreach on federal budgetary policy. 

“Few are more qualified than Brian to provide solutions for reining in the federal budget, cutting taxes, and supporting economic prosperity,” said Manhattan Institute President Larry Mone. “The Manhattan Institute welcomes him and looks forward to leading the debate during this time of change in Washington.”

Riedl’s work has been widely published, including in the Wall Street Journal, New York Times, Washington Post, and Los Angeles Times. He has a Master in Public Affairs from Princeton University and a bachelor’s degree in economics and political science from the University of Wisconsin at Madison.
