The Manhattan Institute (MI) is a community of scholars, journalists, activists, and civic leaders who are united by a shared commitment to advancing economic opportunity, individual liberty, and the rule of law in America and its great cities. MI is independent, creative, and bold, and we are hiring like-minded Policy Analysts capable of working closely with our fellows and public policy research teams.

In addition to publishing commentary and research of their own, Policy Analysts will provide support on research, media, and events. Policy Analysts will also participate in enrichment programming organized by the Institute, designed to enhance their career development prospects and expand their professional networks. Whether participants continue with the Manhattan Institute or move on to politics, research, business, or further education, the goal of the Policy Analyst Program is to develop future leaders who will advance the cause of political and economic freedom for generations to come.

MI is looking for self-starters who are committed to developing actionable policy ideas that align with and amplify our institutional priorities in the following areas:

  • State and local public finance, particularly New York City fiscal affairs
  • Economic growth and innovation
  • Legal policy
  • Policing and public safety
  • K-12 education policy
  • Identity politics
  • Health policy

Required qualifications

  • College degree in relevant field
  • Excellent written communication skills
  • Ability to work with and analyze data
  • Ability to clearly communicate research findings to experts and non-experts alike
  • Ability to persuasively communicate policy ideas to audiences across the political spectrum
  • Familiarity with MI policy priorities and the work of MI fellows; a keen interest in supporting and extending this work
  • Strong organizational skills and an ability to adjust to a constantly shifting policy landscape

Preferred qualifications

  • Advanced degree in relevant field
  • Familiarity with a programming language, such as R, for statistical computing
  • Experience publishing policy commentary in reputable media outlets
