Manhattan Institute for Policy Research (MI) is a community of scholars, journalists, activists, and civic leaders who are united by a shared commitment to advancing economic opportunity, individual liberty, and the rule of law in America and its great cities. 

MI is independent, creative, and bold, and we are hiring a like-minded Events Manager to join our growing events team. The Manager will be responsible for the execution of high-caliber events, both in-person and virtual. They will work with the Director of Events on all stages of the event production process. 

This is a logistics and project management-oriented role for a well-organized and self-starting individual interested in advancing the scholarship and overall mission of the Manhattan Institute.  

This role is based in MI’s New York City headquarters, with the opportunity to work from home 1-2 days per week.  Additionally, the Event Manager will travel 5-10 times/year for out-of-state events.

  • Serve as the primary point of contact for vendors and venues during all stages of event production, including onsite coordination with audio/visual teams, hotel personnel, and other relevant staging crews 
  • Ensure accuracy of invoices, contracts, and payment authorizations; Execute budget-related tasks such as issuing reimbursements and tracking event expenses 
  • Craft and manage event-related inquiries to hotels, clubs, and restaurants, among other venues 
  • Maintain a checklist of event materials such as name tags, printed resources, signage, and event-related shipments 
  • Support the director of events in gauging logistical needs for proposed event ideas and floor plans 
  • Administer virtual events (training provided) 


  • Bachelor’s degree 
  • 3-5 years' work or internship experience (at least 2-3 years of non-profit, hospitality management or event management experience required) 
  • Familiarity with MI policy priorities and the work of MI Fellows; a keen interest in supporting and extending this work 
  • Outstanding communications and interpersonal skills; ability to deliver high-quality customer service to event attendees and donors  
  • Availability to work evening events when needed  
  • Ability to multi-task, problem-solve, and remain poised under pressure 
  • Ability to travel for events approximately 5-10 times per year
  • Familiarity with virtual event-related software a plus

The salary range for this position is $65,000 to $85,000.
