Position

The Manhattan Institute is seeking a Design Editor to help present the work of the Institute, its fellows and programs online and in print. The Design Editor will work with the research, marketing, communications, development, and external affairs teams to meet the Institute’s publishing goals and standards and to ensure that all content is consistent with the Manhattan Institute’s overall brand. The ideal candidate will be a detail-oriented and deadline-driven person with effective communication skills and an eye for creative problem-solving. 

Responsibilities 

  • Layout and design of research publications and various promotional materials for fundraising, and external affairs (basic image preparation and manipulation, creating charts, tables, and other reader-friendly media)  

  • Assisting with the editing of outreach materials, fundraising materials, and other publications as needed  

  • Management of select website content (preparing content to be published online, by moving copy and other assets into our content management systems) 

  • Assisting the marketing team as needed in the design of social media and website assets as well as email marketing 

  • Communicating with stakeholders across various departments to ensure that published projects occur on-schedule and meet expectations 

Qualifications 

  • 1 - 3 years of experience in web or print graphic design 

  • Some editing experience preferred 

  • Mastery of Adobe Photoshop, InDesign, and Illustrator. Familiarity with other design software preferred.  

  • Mastery of Excel and Word. Mastery of Power Point preferred 

  • Mastery of web CMS such as WordPress, Drupal, or Squarespace preferred 

  • Ability to collaborate with other staff and take directions from various people 

  • Ability to handle multiple projects and communicate with colleagues to manage competing priorities 

  • Experience working with remote teams 

  • Familiarity with publishing and editorial calendars
