Manhattan Institute for Policy Research (MI) is a community of scholars, journalists, activists, and civic leaders who are united by a shared commitment to advancing economic opportunity, individual liberty, and the rule of law in America and its great cities. MI is independent, creative, and bold, and we are hiring a like-minded Audience Development Manager capable of working closely with our marketing and development teams as well as our Fellows.

The Audience Development Manager will be responsible for overseeing delivery of new strategic communications for the Institute's community of supporters, finding creative ways to grow our audience, and analyzing and reporting data to other departments. Data sources include, but are not limited to, Google Analytics reporting (specifically for MI reports and City Journal articles), social media, email campaigns, donor databases, publicly-available media analytics, as well as other data sources not yet identified. The Audience Development Manager will be expected to proactively generate new ideas for data integrations, as well as proposing both tactical and strategic choices based on their findings.

Responsibilities

A keen interest and aptitude for public policy is essential, particularly for policy ideas that align with and amplify our institutional priorities. The Audience Development Manager must also be entrepreneurial, self-driven, resourceful, detail-oriented, and adaptable. The ideal candidate will have a demonstrated ability to learn complex subjects quickly and comprehensively.

This role will report to MI’s Director of Marketing but will accept service requests from individuals throughout the Institute.

Requirements

This job is based in MI’s New York City office.  Financial assistance with relocation is available.

  • One to three years of relevant experience
  • Bachelor’s degree
  • Familiarity with MI policy priorities and the work of MI Fellows; a keen interest in supporting and extending this work.
  • Mastery of Excel, PowerPoint, and Word; excellent data analysis skills
  • Familiarity with email campaign managers (i.e. Mailchimp, Constant Contact) preferred
  • Familiarity customer relationship management (CRM) software (Salesforce, Raiser's Edge), Google Analytics, and Google Ads a plus
  • Exceptional organizational and time management skills, including the abilities to: handle multiple projects simultaneously, manage competing priorities, set and meet deadlines, and react quickly and creatively to changes and challenges.
  • Excellent data analysis skills.
  • Effective communication and presentation skills.
  • Ability to collaborate effectively with fellows and staff from across the organization including remote members of the team.
  • Comfort taking direction from multiple people.
