The Supreme Court's 4-4 split in U.S. v. Texas means that the lower court decision blocking President Obama's lawless executive order on immigration stands.

The result reinforces the rule of law but also shows its tenuous nature; it also vindicates the strategy of the GOP leadership in the Senate not to confirm the president's nomination of Merrick Garland to the Court.
