The program will begin at 6:45 PM

Michael Barone
Senior Political Analyst, Washington Examiner
Author, Shaping Our Nation: How Surges of Migration Transformed America and Its Politics

Dear YLC Members,

I hope you will join us on October 2nd when we will hear from Michael Barone, a renowned scholar and analyst of America’s political culture and evolving demographics. He will speak to us on the topic of his new book, Shaping Our Nation: How Surges of Migration Transformed America and Its Politics. Barone will take us through a history of America’s migrant past and explain how certain spikes in migration—from influxes of the Scots-Irish in the 18th century to Hispanics over the last 40 years—have shaped American politics. He will articulate why a combination of these migrations has largely influenced the divisions we see in today’s political climate and explain why understanding them could help us bridge our differences as a nation.

Michael Barone is a senior political analyst for the Washington Examiner, where his column is nationally syndicated. He is also a resident fellow at the American Enterprise Institute in Washington, D.C and a regular commentator on FOX News. He is the principal author of the annual Almanac of American Politics, which is published by National Journal. Barone is also the author of several books, including Our First Revolution: The Remarkable British Upheaval that Inspired America's Founding Fathers and The New Americans: How the Melting Pot Can Work Again.

I very much hope you will be able to join us.
