Immigration in America

Tamar Jacoby
President & CEO, ImmigrationWorks USA
Former Senior Fellow, Manhattan Institute

Dear YLC Members,

I hope you will be able to join us on Wednesday, May 1st where we will hear from Tamar Jacoby, president and CEO of ImmigrationWorks USA and former senior fellow at the Manhattan Institute. Tamar will speak about where the debate surrounding immigration reform—including worker visas—stands today, as well as what direction it will take over the next few months. Is comprehensive immigration reform possible? If so, what are the steps that need to be taken in order to achieve bi-partisan cooperation? What challenges, specifically, does the GOP face? How will immigration affect the U.S. economy, especially if reforms are not made?

Tamar Jacoby is a nationally known journalist and author. Her articles have appeared in The New York Times, The Wall Street Journal, and The Washington Post, among numerous other publications. She is author of Someone Else’s House: America’s Unfinished Struggle for Integration, and editor of Reinventing the Melting Pot: The New Immigrants and What It Means To Be American. From 1989 to 2007, Tamar was a senior fellow at the Manhattan Institute. Before that, she was a senior writer and justice editor for Newsweek. From 1981 to 1987, she was the deputy editor of The New York Times op-ed page. She is currently a Schwartz Fellow at the New America Foundation.

I very much hope you will be able to join us.
